Our Mission Statement

At St John Baptist School, we have a shared mission to nurture a Christian ethos of love and care through or actions, prayers and reflections.

We aim to celebrate and respect the diversity of cultures and beliefs in society; to create a challenging learning environment; to encourage each individual to reach his or her maximum potential.

Our Irresistible Curriculum and Core Values provide an opportunity for all to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to lead happy and successful lives.

History

Our school is a one form entry primary school in the borough of Lewisham with a total of 210 pupils. The land was owned by the Forster family who were the largest landowners in the Lewisham area. The old cottage school was opened in 1855 to educate the estate workers children.

The present school was opened in 1963 to provide schooling for the children of residents of the Downham housing estate. We aim to provide children, through our Irresistible Curriculum, the skills to become good learners. We enjoy a happy, friendly environment and respect the diversity of our community. We work closely with home to achieve high standards of behaviour and learning.
