During the national lockdown you will find daily activities for Year 2 listed below, the most recent day will always appear at the top of the page. I have also added some links here which you can access to gain access to more work/ideas/activities for your child.
Please note, Zoom calls will happen every day at 9:45am and 2.30pm. The Zoom sessions will last approximately 15 minutes and it is expected that all children attend these.

Friday 5th March

We are going to be starting our new maths topic, fractions. To begin with we will be thinking about equal and unequal parts. There is no worksheet today but you will need your pencil and paper or whiteboards. It would also be useful if you could have several squares of paper for folding. Today we are going to be writing a diary entry in role as Noi, the main character of the book, 'The Storm Whale'. Science LI: How to plant a bean
Our topic for this half term is plants. This video lesson will show you how to plant a bean and what seeds need to grow. You can join in and plant one too with the video, or later on the weekend. You will need soil, stones, a pot and a kidney bean but if you do not have these resources available, you can watch on the video. We will be looking at what a seed needs to be able to grow into a healthy plant.

Value Work Our value word this month has been enthusiasm. We have written about what the word means and you have told me what you are enthusiastic about. Today I want you to tell me what you think you need to be more enthusiastic about.
For example: I know that I need to be more enthusiastic about going for a run after work. When I get home it is often dark and cold but I know that it is really important for me to keep up with my exercise so that I can stay fit and healthy. Next time I don't feel like going for a run I am going to focus on the good reasons for it and it will make me more enthusiastic about going out.

RE LI: To design your own special meal with meaning
We have learnt about the Jewish festival of Passover and how every item on the plate has special meaning to help them remember the escape from Egypt and what God did for them.
I want you to design a special meal for someone you respect. Jut like the Seder Meal I want you to make sure that everything on the plate makes you think of that person in someway.
You can draw your own dinner plate onto your books and label the items you have chosen to include.

English LI: To write about myself •Think of objects which represent you •Draw a self portrait including objects which represent you •Explain in writing why you have chosen each object
Today you are going to be drawing a picture and writing about it. You will be drawing a picture of yourself with certain objects in it, just like the picture of Bob at the beginning of our book, 'The Man on the Moon'. Then you will write down why you have chosen those objects.

English LI: To explore the illustrations in a text.
We are starting a new approach to English teaching in lockdown this week. We will start the day with our Zoom call as usual but we are going to be discussing the English work and tasks in the morning and have our phonics session at the end of the day.

Our task will be to make a mind map, listing what we know about a character just from an illustration of them.

We are still in our statistics topic. Today we are going to be practising pictograms again, but with a difference.
Over the last couple of lessons you have been making pictograms with a scale of 1:1 - one picture for one object. Today we are going to be drawing pictograms at a scale of 2, 5 and 10. I know that you can all do this because of how good you are at counting in 2, 5s and in 10s!
